What inspired you to kickstart your fitness journey? My fitness journey has been peaks and valleys most of my life, but discovering The Studio (MDR) was a game changer. My first class was back in 2013! Lisa is a dear friend from another lifetime and when I found out about her new endeavor I couldn't wait to check it out. It also happened to be just in time to get wedding ready. It was the most consistent and effective workout I had ever done, and I stayed with it until I had my son. Then life took over - as it does - and the location was no longer doable for me. A couple of years ago, I found myself in a place where I felt I could prioritize my health again, coinciding with the opening of the Manhattan Beach studio. The best timing!
How have you noticed yourself evolving since you started? I feel stronger, both mentally and physically. I love a challenge, and these workouts are always challenging but also goal satisfying.
What’s been the biggest hurdle you’ve faced along the way? The biggest hurdle I have always faced is making the time to do something for myself and not feel guilty about it!
Any pearls of wisdom for those just starting out? I am sure it will sound cliche but getting started is of course the hardest moment but know that if you keep going, you will see and feel the results pretty quickly. It doesn't take long for this workout to change your body.
How has your fitness journey spilled over into other aspects of your life? I have been making quite a few changes in my life and recognizing how far I have come even in the last 2 years reminds me that my tenacity can be applied where I need it.
What keeps your fitness fire burning bright? My son is a main motivator for me. I want to make sure I do my part in not only taking care of my health so I can enjoy life with him, but also be an example to him.
Any unexpected perks or benefits from your journey? The connections with instructors and other classmates. The Studio (MDR) environment is so welcoming and supportive. Everyone wants to celebrate your accomplishments - even if that accomplishment is just getting to class!
What major fitness milestones are you aiming to conquer next? Not necessarily major milestones, but I am always cardio lite so this year my goal is to amp it up!
How has your mindset shifted since you began this journey? This fitness journey was about overall health, which included weight loss. But instead of focusing on my weight I have found myself much more focused on what my body can do, how I feel, and how I can take it up a notch.
In what ways has The Studio (MDR) been instrumental in your transformation? Going to The Studio (MDR) 3-4x a week for the past 2 years completely transformed by body. Having instructors that really pay attention to your form and growth is like having a personal trainer! It has also been incredible to witness the journeys of others around me. And personally, it's always a pleasure to see the faces of friends when you are there to push yourself.
