What inspired you to kickstart your fitness journey? I've never been someone who enjoys exercise - I found running difficult. Spin class was too intense. I took ballet for many years when I was younger and so became intrigued with bar classes only to become bored quickly. But I had learned that classes you did in socks were my preference...so I decided to give Pilates a try and finally found something I love.
How have you noticed yourself evolving since you started? I've gone from someone who felt exercise was something I had to do to feeling like it's something I want to do. My :45 at MDR is usually the best part of my day - and the only part that feels like it's just for me.
How has your fitness journey spilled over into other aspects of your life? Physical strength transfers to mental strength. I have a high pressure career and I've found that overall I don't get as stressed or anxious in challenging moments. If you can hold a plank for :90 on the back of the machine, you can handle a board meeting! :)
What keeps your fitness fire burning bright? I crave the community. The group gives me energy. The instructors push me harder. The music keeps me stimulated. I don't get bored with MDR because it's always different. And I love that it's hard every single time - and that I also feel stronger with every class.
How has your mindset shifted since you began this journey? I really feel like being able to move my body in a place I feel supported and motivated is a massive privilege. When I get on my machine and class begins, I feel an enormous sense of gratitude and joy.
